Whitewashing Fossil Fuels with a Fund

Using a 'transition fund' to pay for current emissions is a classic narrative scam.

The UK government's approval of the Jackdaw gas field is a textbook performance: holding a climate pledge script in one hand while signing drilling permits with the other. This so-called "pragmatism" is a weaponized expression. By manufacturing a fake contradiction between "energy security" and "climate goals," and tossing in a £2 billion "Energy Wealth Fund" as a buffer, they want the public to believe we can profit from environmental destruction and then use that money to fix the planet.

In the Violence Triangle, this is pure structural violence. The Potential is a total transition away from fossil fuels; the Actual is more drilling in the North Sea. The gap between them is the hidden ecological violence. The fund is merely a rhetorical patch at the cultural layer, designed to make structural exploitation look like a "responsible transition."

More ironically, this logic is an extension of the masculine-centric narrative: defining "security" and "protection" through absolute resource appropriation and short-term maximization. The claim of "protecting hundreds of jobs" is simply a moment of complicity between the power elite and energy giants like Shell and Equinor. By defining what constitutes "necessary energy needs," they seize the power of interpretation over the future, reducing the climate crisis to a math problem of GDP and employment.

When the government claims it is "right to maximize reserves" while people are struggling, they are weaponizing the survival anxiety of the underclass to endorse corporate profit. This narrative trap tricks the victims into becoming complicitors in their own long-term destruction.
