Fuel Prices are War Bills, and the Vulnerable Pay Them
The UK inflation rise to 3.5% is framed as a fuel price fluctuation, but it is actually a precise transfer of costs. When the US and Israel launched their war and closed the Strait of Hormuz, they seized control of both the cognitive entry and physical channels of global energy. This so-called "strategic action" translates directly into structural violence, where soaring oil prices eventually hit the dinner tables and heating bills of ordinary people.
This is the textbook operation of meta-violence: the masculine-centric war machine gambles in the public sphere, while the resulting gap in the Violence Triangle—the difference between Potential and Actual—is borne by the structurally vulnerable. For the decision-makers, oil prices are bargaining chips; for the individual, it is a forced contraction of existence.
It is telling how economists and bank officials discuss 2% targets and 4% jumps, attempting to mask this violence with a "rational" financial narrative. This narrative "naturalizes" the disasters of war as economic cycles or market volatility. When the power of interpretation is monopolized by a masculine-centric narrative, war becomes an inevitable "geopolitical necessity," and the resulting poverty is reduced to a single percentage point in a dataset.
There is no Just Expression in this game, only complicity. From the politicians launching the war to the bankers raising interest rates to "hedge" inflation, they all maintain a logic that objectifies human life. The record-high fuel prices are not an accident; they are a war tax forcibly collected from those who have no seat at the table.
