The PR Cycle of Eco-Agreements and Structural Self-Destruction

Using 'promises' to mask 'plunder' is a textbook PR version of structural violence.

This piece reads like a standard political performance. The author opens with a sentimental narrative about climbing a tree as a child, attempting to reduce a global resource allocation crisis to a moral issue of 'courage' and 'persistence.' But strip away the warmth, and the core logic is absurd: 200 countries made a pact four years ago, failed to execute it, and are now meeting to discuss how to 'not backslide.'

This is textbook structural violence. In the Violence Triangle, this cycle of 'promise $\rightarrow$ breach $\rightarrow$ re-promise' is a form of cultural violence. It manufactures an illusion of 'effort,' making the actual ecological collapse—the widening gap between Potential and Actual—appear as an unfortunate byproduct of 'war and budget constraints' rather than a systemic choice.

The most ironic part is the data: subsidies for destroying nature are 30 times higher than those for protecting it. This isn't 'tight budgets'; it's a massive field of complicity. Finance ministers and environment ministers are co-conspirators in the same system: one signs a 'progressive' agreement at COP to maintain a facade of civilization, while the other pumps trillions into destructive industries to sustain short-term GDP. This 'left hand vs. right hand' mechanism ensures the power structure avoids touching core interests while legitimizing the plunder of global ecology.

Don't be fooled by the 'saving nature' narrative; it's just another weaponized expression. When nature is defined as a 'critical asset' or a 'sure bet,' it has already been absorbed into a masculine-centric economic logic based on extraction. If nature must be 'useful' to be protected, it remains a fetishized object rather than a subject with its own existence.
