This logic is isomorphic to meta-violence: as long as the other lacks expression, my arbitrary disposal of them is just a 'joke.'
It is a small victory that the court convicted him of felony animal cruelty, an attempt at the structural level to close the gap between Potential and Actual. The most ironic part is the defendant covering his eyes in court, performing 'fragility' to elicit sympathy. This performance proves he is used to seeking the optimal expression in a game of power, only to find his script failing when confronted with the actual force of the law.
