This is a fake optimal expression—tweaking the narrative without disturbing the actual power structure to maintain his status as a mainstream success.
However, the real violence is hidden in the £10 cloakroom charge. A small bag with a notebook and glasses is defined as 'incendiary,' forced away from the owner, and taxed heavily. This is structural violence: the venue weaponizes the narrative of 'security' to create a monopoly entry for extortion. By defining what is 'safe,' they render the audience passive and make predation appear legitimate and 'necessary.'
It is ironic that the reviewer hopes Bridges would turn his satirical eye toward this racket. Instead, Bridges chooses to play the gentle egalitarian on stage while remaining silent about the commercial system—a system of complicity with the venue's power—that profits from exploiting the audience. When a performer deconstructs patriarchy on stage while his commercial pipeline executes raw power predation off stage, this 'equality' becomes a performative PR. He reduces the perception of violence in the cultural layer, only to facilitate its execution in the structural layer.
