In his narrative logic, the higher the death toll, the more inexcusable Zelenskyy's 'non-compliance' becomes, and the more his own 'deal' appears as a humanitarian rescue. This isn't a debate over facts; it is the weaponisation of expression to seize the right of interpretation. He is attempting to define 'correct peace' as the surrender of sovereignty in exchange for his version of 'stopping the dying.'
This is pure meta-violence. Beyond the structural violence of waiving sanctions to weaken Ukraine, he employs a cultural narrative that casts the victim as a disobedient child and himself as the sole savior. When he suggests 'somebody else' should negotiate for Ukraine, he is effectively erasing their existential expression. In an existential war, the most absolute defeat is not the loss of land, but the loss of the agency to define one's own destiny.
Simultaneously, the GOP's exploitation of the French riots to target 'immigrants' is a crude form of complicity. They reduce complex structural violence—soaring costs of living and crumbling infrastructure—to a simple biological wall (migrants/Muslims). The goal is to consolidate internal power for the midterms by manufacturing a common 'Other.' Using 'civilization' as a shield while labeling others 'anti-civilization' is the most common disguise for meta-violence.
