艺术市场的定价权不过是一场关于共谋的 scamThe Art Market is Just a Scam of Complicity

Authenticity is a monopoly of interpretation; the law only intervenes when the complicity breaks.

This sentencing over Warhol forgeries is packaged in mainstream narratives as a 'triumph of justice' and a 'restoration of market confidence.' But strip away the layer of cultural violence, and you'll find this isn't about art—it's about the game of pricing power. The art market is essentially a massive complicity field: galleries, auction houses, and foundations collectively define what is 'authentic' to determine an object's price in the capital market. By forging invoices and certificates, Leslie Roberts was simply attempting to hijack this power language to steal the right of interpretation.

The most ironic part is the prosecution's claim about 'undermining confidence.' What confidence? The belief in an authentication system monopolized by a few power nodes and easily manipulated. In art, authenticity often depends not on the biological facts of the canvas, but on who owns the stamped piece of paper. This fetishization of 'expert certification' is a direct extension of meta violence—it demands that the audience abandon their own perception and surrender the right to define reality to an authority.

Roberts' imprisonment isn't because he challenged art, but because he was a failed co-conspirator. He tried to share the power dividends without an invitation. When the law steps in, it isn't protecting 'artistic truth'; it is protecting a commercial closed-loop built on hierarchy and trust. The 'clear message' sent by this trial is simple: you may manipulate prices through legitimate complicity, but you cannot manufacture facts on your own without the club's permission.
