“正常”的刀口与被消解的主体性The Blade of 'Normal' and the Erasure of Subjectivity

所谓的“正常” (Normal) 永远是权力在认知入口设下的陷阱。
'Normal' is always a trap set by power at the entrance of cognition.

A crowd member holding a knife to Richard Thompson's throat demanding he play something 'normal' is a precise demonstration of how Cultural Violence operates. When someone attempts to define 'normal,' they are exercising a micro-form of meta-violence.

In this game, the knife is Direct Violence, but the real violence lies in the word 'Normal.' This word is a massive cognitive entry point that labels any expression not aligning with mainstream aesthetics or power expectations as 'abnormal.' This power of definition is a weapon. By questioning 'what is normal,' Thompson is attempting to deconstruct this weaponized concept.

More telling is his description of Sandy Denny. He defines her as a 'terrible passenger' and 'impossible' on planes, concluding with a 'Bless her'—a form of condescending tolerance. In this narrative, the complexity of a genius woman is reduced to trivial labels of domestic incompetence. This is a classic complicity in the masculine-centric narrative: by labeling a woman's discomfort in technical or public spheres (like driving or flying), a subconscious erasure of her subjectivity is achieved. Even in a folk scene defined by camaraderie, the habit of objectifying women as 'troubles to be tolerated' remains deep-seated.

This is the reality of the Existential War: either you define 'normal,' or you are defined as 'abnormal.' For most, the fake optimal expression is to play the role of the definer to gain a fleeting sense of power.
