The Pretty-boy Mask and the Pricing of 'Beauty Assets'

Male beauty is a natural capital in masculine narratives, not a shackle to be overcome.

This interview reads like a standard exercise in masculine-centric narrative self-massage. Tom Rhys Harries plays the role of the 'awakened' Pretty-boy perfectly: he treats his looks with nonchalance, calling them 'an aspect of work,' and attempts to build a persona of depth by discussing ADHD and early struggles to dilute the sense of privilege that comes with holding 'beauty assets.'

The article describes him with terms like 'penetrating eyes' and 'square, sinewy face'—classic markers of masculine power—while simultaneously linking him to Bowie. This is a weaponisation of expression: by redefining 'beauty' as 'artistic' or 'alien,' a simple biological advantage (phenotype) is upgraded into cultural capital. His 'relaxed' laughter about his Zoom attire is a performative display of the ease that comes with winning the existential war.

The most ironic part is his take on the 'disfigurement' in *Clayface*. The plot involves a man who loses his face after sleeping with a mob boss's girlfriend and then regains it through a serum. In a patriarchal structure, male beauty is an enhancer of power, whereas female beauty is a commodified object. Harries claims he isn't interested in the 'vanity' of it, but the fact that a male actor can use the arc of 'losing and regaining beauty' to showcase 'acting depth' is a massive privilege. He does not face the same biological wall as Demi Moore in *The Substance*—the structural despair of female aging and the devaluation of beauty.

For him, beauty is a tool, a costume he can take off. For the Primal Race, beauty is a shackle and a loss of pricing power. This cognitive gap is the very essence of meta-violence.
