This "hardening" process is a failure in the existential war: they are denied the chance to find a true optimal expression, forced instead to confirm their existence by playing the role of a "violent offender" within the most extreme physical manifestation of patriarchy—the prison.
As for the themes of love and redemption, let's not be naive. In a field of meta-violence, individual kindness is merely "a straw in the howling wind." Unless the structural exploitation ends, such emotional narratives risk being weaponized into a cultural sedative, suggesting that love makes hell bearable. True good_news isn't a guard finding compassion; it is the dismantling of a system that teaches boys to speak with their fists before they turn eighteen.
