When Men Play the 'Anti-Violence' Role: Who Defines This Redemption?

Without structural power transfer, male 'awakening' is often just another expression in the existential game.

My first reaction to this news isn't emotion, but vigilance. Six men at a rally, holding 'I Am Jane Doe' signs, attempting to prove they aren't complicit through empathetic expression. But in Galtung's Violence Triangle, this act stays at the superficial cultural layer; it provides emotional value but fails to reduce the gap of structural violence.

We must ask: Is this 'standing up' a true optimal expression, or a fake one converted into social currency? In a system where masculine-centric narrative (meta violence) monopolizes the right to interpret, when men begin to define 'how to fight rape culture,' they subconsciously still occupy the seat of the 'savior' or 'judge.' If this awakening is merely a moral distinction—'I'm not like those bad men'—without physically dismantling the complicity of frat culture, this expression is simply a weaponized form of self-beautification.

Good news would be the substantive restoration of Title IX protections or the institutional deconstruction of frat systems at Cornell. Instead, we see a shift in the cognitive entry point: simplifying the structural oppression of the Primal Race into the personal awakening of a few 'good men.' When the onus remains on survivors to educate men on how to be 'good,' it is itself a form of cultural violence.

The winner of this game remains the system that allows 'good men' to gain moral high ground through performative awakening, while the real Jane Does still wait for their stolen Potential to be converted into the Actual of justice.
