ICE Bullets and the Sacrificial Narrative of the 'Non-Human'

Violence is not just pulling a trigger, but the monopoly of interpretation that defines certain people as 'shootable'.

The shooting in the Bronx is a textbook case of Violence = Potential − Actual. The gap between the actual state of a man being shot with a five-year-old present and the potential of his basic human rights is the most naked form of direct violence.

But we must look beyond the bullets. The real horror lies in the structural and cultural violence supporting that trigger. ICE is a manifestation of structural violence; by labeling specific people as 'illegal', it strips them of their full humanity within the legal and institutional framework. Once a person is defined as an 'illegal immigrant', they are objectified under meta violence, transformed into a 'threat' or an 'object' to be cleared.

In this masculine-centric and nationalist narrative, the 'safety' of the enforcer always overrides the 'survival' of the subject. Even the presence of a five-year-old—a biological wall of innate vulnerability—is worthless against weaponized power. In the cognitive entry of ICE, the target is not a father, but a Case to be processed. This monopoly over interpretation allows the aggressor to rationalize the violence through 'duty' or 'threat response', making the violence appear just.

The outrage from the mayor and governor currently feels performative. Demanding a 'transparent accounting' is a typical expression of complicity within the system—it maintains the illusion that violence is acceptable as long as the procedure is followed. The truth is, as long as the logic of grading humans and colonizing the 'Primal Race' persists, this brand of state terrorism will always find its next target, regardless of who holds office.
