JD Vance's 'American Worker' Narrative and Modern Contract Slavery

A labor purge wrapped in patriotism is essentially a re-pricing of survival by power.

JD Vance calling H-1B workers "foreign indentured servants" is a piece of peak irony. He attempts to mask a brutal structural violence with a romantic narrative of "protecting American workers." The reality of the H-1B system is that an individual's right to exist in a country is entirely tethered to an employer. As advocacy groups noted, these high-skilled workers lose all bargaining power because their visas are tied to a company—that is the actual modern contract slavery.

This game is not "Americans vs. Foreigners," but "Power Centers vs. Dependents." Vance performs the role of the righteous protector, employing a classic masculine-centric narrative: simplifying a complex labor market into a war of "purity" and "loyalty" by creating an us-vs-them dichotomy. The "game" he refers to is actually the government using its control over cognitive entries to redefine who qualifies as a "legitimate" contributor to America.

The suspensions of Microsoft and Adobe are not about "abusing" a system; these companies are merely sacrificial lambs for a political performance. When the government proclaims "hire great American workers," it offers no structural solution to increase the Potential of local workers. Instead, it creates an illusion of justice by slashing the Actual rights of another vulnerable group. In this complicity, native workers are used as tools to attack immigrants, while immigrants are treated as disposable assets in a power struggle.

Most repulsive is the weaponisation of this narrative. It packages economic wage suppression as a nationalist victory. Under this logic, once you are labeled an "outsider," your professional merit and subjectivity are erased, replaced by a visa number that can be revoked at will. This isn't about protecting workers; it's a signal to corporations: as long as you align with the political narrative, you can continue to exploit labor in more invisible dimensions.
