Monuments on Ruins and the Escapism of Power
Violence = Potential − Actual。对于 10 月 7 日的幸存者来说,直接暴力 (direct violence) 虽然在物理上停止了,但结构性暴力 (structural violence) 依然在高效运转。这种暴力体现在一个极其残忍的差额中:受害者在废墟上挣扎着重建生活,而导致这场灾难的权力中心却在通过拒绝独立调查来维持其存在。
Violence = Potential − Actual. For the survivors of October 7, direct violence may have physically ceased, but structural violence continues to operate with high efficiency. This violence manifests as a cruel gap: while victims struggle to rebuild their lives amidst ruins, the power center responsible for the catastrophe maintains its existence by refusing an independent inquiry.
Netanyahu’s logic is a textbook operation of meta-violence—he monopolizes the narrative, converting individual trauma into fuel for nationalism. When survivors demand the truth, he weaponises expression to define such demands as 'disloyalty to national security' or 'political attacks.' It is a despicable strategy: using the blood and tears of victims to legitimize broader ethnic cleansing and annexation. In this narrative, the dead are reduced to bargaining chips, and the survivors to ornaments.
The most sickening complicity occurs within the power hierarchy. Politicians seeking to mask their own corruption and incompetence through war have aligned their interests with the far-right. They don't want truth; they want a perpetual enemy. When a candidate wishes a survivor were returned to captivity, it is no longer a personal emotional outburst, but a direct overflow of meta-violence at the cultural level—in the logic of power, only those who serve power deserve human rights.
Good news is the shrinking of the gap, but here the gap only widens. The survivors' hesitation between monuments and new homes is essentially a mental attrition caused by the absence of accountability. True healing is not writing a book or planting a garden; it is the thorough auditing of the system that allowed 1,200 deaths and traumatized tens of thousands. As long as an independent inquiry is rejected, all commemorations are merely performative mourning under the cover of structural violence.
