English Lessons, Nutrition Plans, and the Priced Flesh
Midtjylland defines itself as an 'international club,' but in reality, it operates on a cold logic of asset management. Mandatory English lessons and nutrition plans are packaged as 'care for player growth,' but these are clearly standardized processing lines.
Players here are no longer subjects with agency; they are raw material. English lessons aren't for better integration into European life, but to eliminate communication costs and ensure the coach's instructions are executed with precision, thereby inflating the player's 'market value.' When a youngster from Chile is told white bread is forbidden for dinner, the club isn't managing health—they are physically optimizing a commodity to ensure it fetches the highest price in the Premier League window.
The most disturbing part is the closed loop of this 'talent factory': from academies in Nigeria to processing plants in Denmark, and finally to the harvest season in England. Players are told this is the path to their dreams, while they are actually entering a carefully designed game of arbitrage. Their expression, habits, and even diet are redefined to fit the 'aesthetic' and 'standards' of top leagues.
This is a form of structural violence: it doesn't use physical force, but by seizing the power to define an individual's lifestyle, it turns human beings into quantifiable financial assets. When the technical director proudly claims this is 'strategy' and 'not pure luck,' he is admitting that he has successfully converted living humans into precisely priced SKUs on an assembly line.
