Blood in the Cockpit and the Weaponized Narrative of 'Suicide'

When violence is labeled as 'suicide' or 'terrorism', the underlying structural meta-violence is erased.

The most eerie part of this flight attack isn't the bloody struggle in the cockpit, but the rapid narrative game that followed. Netanyahu is quick to label it 'Islamist radicalization', while experts debate whether it was 'suicide' or 'terrorism'. In this dispute over motive, everyone employs a masculine-centric narrative: a male pilot seizing control through violence to turn a massive machine into a 'spectacular' theater of death.

Notice the detail deliberately sidelined: the deadlock was broken by Tali Manes, a woman taking her six-year-old daughter to the toilet. While the male flight attendant failed to react to the anomaly—clinging to a scripted 'order' even as passengers screamed—it was a woman's intuition and expression that breached the biological wall of the cockpit. In a narrative saturated with male heroism—like the plumber mimicking a documentary or the off-duty pilots saving the day—women are reduced to 'witnesses' or 'helpers'. In reality, she was the only one to sound the alarm and act against the silence of meta-violence.

Categorizing such events as 'terrorism' or 'psychiatric suicide' is a form of weaponization of the cognitive entry point. It individualizes violence, stripping it from its structural context. Whether it's 'radical indoctrination' or 'mental illness', these labels serve as veils for the structural violence of Middle Eastern geopolitics. While the world discusses whether the pilot was recruited by AQAP, they are complicit in maintaining a simplistic logic: violence stems from a 'madman' or an 'extremist', not from an ecosystem fed by war, hatred, and power asymmetry.

Ultimately, the plane landed in Saudi Arabia, a domain of absolute male power. This 'miracle' was merely a brief collision between direct violence and structural violence. What we are left with is still the masculine gaze defining what constitutes a 'threat' or 'security', and how to manufacture the 'motive' of this attack to serve their ongoing political game.
