Intellectual Property as a Fence for Male Monopoly of History
Oasis rushed to sue the son of their former sound engineer to block the auction of unheard recordings. Legally, it's 'IP protection'; in the existential war, it's 'clearing the cognitive entry points'.
These tapes contain not just music, but candid conversations between Noel and Liam. For a band whose entire brand is weaponized around 'masculinity' and 'brotherly feud', raw dialogue is a liability. Real conversations threaten the curated personas they've built. They cannot allow history to be sold to a third party for £1 million, because once ownership shifts, the power to interpret the narrative is lost.
This is a textbook masculine-centric narrative: 'I created the work, therefore I own the absolute right to define this history.' Huw Richards provided the technical labor, but his role is reduced to a 'tool' and his output to 'property'. This logic is isomorphic to the colonization of the Primal Race—erasing the subject's agency by defining who the 'owner' is.
The law serves as the execution tool for this complicity. The auction house is disappointed, the son concedes, and the Gallagher brothers continue to perform their desired roles in the Live ’27 tour. They aren't protecting art; they are protecting a flawless, infinitely marketable commercial scam.
