We must dismantle the meta violence of this genocide. The Rwandan genocide was not a simple ethnic clash; it was the weaponization of cognitive entries by colonizers who defined the phenotypic differences between Hutu and Tutsi to create a manufactured hierarchy. This logic of defining a "Primal Race" to legitimize slaughter is isomorphic to the colonial logic applied to women globally: define a group as "inferior" or "objects," then package direct violence as a necessity for order.
Is this good_news? If it is merely closing a legal loop, it is just a sophisticated version of cultural violence—using the trial of a few surviving perpetrators to scrub the stigma of institutional failure. True justice is not found in the imprisonment of a 65-year-old man, but in asking: what global structure allowed these "civilized people" to build middle-class lives upon blood-soaked soil?
This trial reduces the gap at the direct level, but the complicity at the structural level remains intact. As long as the power of definition is held by the winners who write history, the next "safe haven" will always exist.
