Paying for War Narratives with the Survival Rights of the Poor

Defense crises are often weaponized narratives used by elites to legitimize systemic deprivation.

Badenoch's logic is brutally simplistic: to counter a 'burning Europe' of her own definition, the welfare budget must be slashed. In Galtung's Violence Triangle, this is a textbook escalation of structural violence. She attempts to frame social security as a mere 'people-pleasing' luxury, while casting war preparedness as the only 'serious' priority. By manufacturing fear of an external enemy, the predation of internal resources is rebranded as an inevitable sacrifice.

What is most repulsive is the typical masculine-centric narrative: reducing the deprivation of basic survival rights to 'difficult choices.' When the Tories propose raising £4bn by capping housing benefits, they casually suggest some people simply 'move somewhere cheaper.' This expression erases concrete human suffering, reducing living beings to mere digits on a defense ledger. This is how meta-violence operates—defining who is disposable and granting this disposal a sense of 'national security' sanctity.

This 'welfare v warfare' debate is essentially a struggle over cognitive entry points. Badenoch seeks to frame empathy as weakness and the feeding of the war machine as strength. This weaponization of expression aims to establish a consensus: in a supposed 'non-end of history' era, the right to exist must yield to the right to kill. The marginalized who will be displaced and stripped of support are the pre-sold costs of this existential war.
