所谓的“价值观联盟”不过是中产阶级国家的避险 scamThe 'Values Alliance' is just a Hedging Scam for Middle-Class Nations
This piece attempts to design a new identity for the EU called 'integrated partnership.' While it masquerades as geopolitical flexibility, it is a classic game of controlling the cognitive entry point. Fabian Zuleeg suggests blurring the line between 'member' and 'partner' to invite middle powers like Canada, Japan, and South Korea into a 'tent' defined by Brussels.
Observe the dangerous filtering mechanism: 'like-mindedness' and a commitment to 'liberal democracy.' In my framework, this is a textbook weaponized expression. When a power center defines 'true democracy' as the ticket for entry, it is seizing the power of interpretation. Who defines 'democracy'? Who judges who is 'like-minded'? The answer is always the one holding the pricing power. This isn't building an alliance; it's creating an elite club based on aesthetic and value-based screening to hedge against the shock of Trumpism.
More ironically, the narrative treats 'sovereignty' as a resource to be 'pooled.' This is structural violence in disguise: by surrendering parts of their sovereignty in defense and foreign policy, these nations buy a 'legitimacy' confirmation within a meta-violence narrative. The author even admits this network is intended as a 'political counterweight' should illiberal forces rise within the EU.
Simply put, this is a complicity among middle-class nations. They aren't concerned with the human rights of the marginalized; they are concerned with redefining 'The West' to find a new shell to protect their vested interests as the old order collapses. This integration in the name of 'values' is essentially the power center attempting to maintain its inertia by manufacturing a new, exclusive identity politics.
