Re-stitching History: Cyber-Irony of the Cognitive Entry

When historical narratives are simplified by AI algorithms, we lose facts but gain a weapon to mock meta-violence.

The Bayeux tapestry was originally a visual record of power, betrayal, and conquest—a classic case of history written by the victors. In this narrative, whoever held the needle held the power to define 'justice' and 'legitimacy.' It was, in essence, a medieval occupation of the cognitive entry, romanticizing structural violence into a divine mission.

Ben Jennings' cartoon is lethal because it uses AI and smartphones—modern tools of cognition—to deconstruct this history. When historical figures start scrolling through phones and AI intervenes in the reconstruction of ancient narratives, the resulting dissonance punctures the solemnity of the 'grand narrative.' AI doesn't care who the righteous conqueror was; it only cares about pixel distribution and probabilistic fitting. This erosion of historical gravity is a direct mockery of the desire to monopolize the manufacture of facts.

However, we must ask: has this deconstruction become another form of weaponized expression? By reducing history to a meme, are we exposing meta-violence, or are we subconsciously complicit in a nihilism that claims 'history is just a joke'? If AI becomes the new monopolist of interpretation, the 'reality' it manufactures will be far more opaque and impenetrable than medieval embroidery. Because this time, the one holding the needle is not a king, but an opaque algorithm.
