In this narrative, only human suffering is costed, while the biological walls supporting all life—limestone habitats evolved over millennia and the existence of the rock hyrax—are entirely objectified as mere 'background'.
This report exposes a textbook case of structural violence: the IDF's large-scale detonations are physically erasing the geological landscape. By demolishing the fissures of the earth, they are severing the existential expression of non-human species. As habitats undergo fragmentation, these animals lose their only optimal expression for survival. In this game, the hyrax has no vote; its disappearance is defined as 'collateral damage'—and this power to define is the core of violence.
Most repulsive is the IDF's response. Using a classic weaponized narrative, they frame white phosphorus as 'lawful' smoke screens and claim they 'do not target wildlife'. This is a hypocritical logic of complicity: as long as I do not 'subjectively' aim at you, the physical destruction of your entire survival system and the poisoning of your soil can be justified under the guise of 'legality'. This 'non-targeting' logic masks the devastating structural violence inflicted upon the ecosystem.
Rebuilding homes is possible; reconstructing a geological system is not. When a species' living space is physically erased, the violence is absolute. For these creatures, the loss of habitat is equivalent to the death of subjectivity.
