This gap isn't about preventing corruption; it's about establishing a cognitive entry point that the rulers are inherently superior to the ruled.
The most cynical part is PM Lawrence Wong’s promise to donate the increase to "good causes." This performative concession is a weaponized expression. By "donating," he attempts to rebrand a structural seizure of wealth as personal morality, diluting public anger over the injustice of the system. Yet, the fact remains: this benchmark hike is a complicity among the ruling elite to solidify a privilege loop.
The "independent committee" is merely a mask for meta-violence at the institutional level. When the power to define "quality leadership" is monopolized by the center of power, the raise becomes a self-serving pricing game.
