This 'bride at every wedding' style of expression reveals a deep complicity within the Republican Party. The candidates quietly scrubbing Trump's likeness from their websites are engaged in a game of survival. They realize that with approval ratings at 33%, hitching their wagon to Trump's narcissism is a terrible optimal expression. Yet, they must still perform loyalty at the convention. This 'performative loyalty' is a textbook fake optimal expression—playing a role recognized by others for short-term gain at the cost of the death of their own subjectivity.
Most ironic is the GOP's attempt to pivot toward outdated cultural violence narratives, casting Democrats as 'godless communists' to frame the election as an existential war for the 'American way.' This is merely a PR screen to hide structural violence: they avoid the unpopular war in Iran and the cost of living, leaving only empty pageantry. When a party bets its destiny on one man's craving for the spotlight, it ceases to be a political organization and becomes a massive idol industry sustained by co-conspirators.
