The Hollywood 'Echo Chamber' and the Ban of Power Structures

A shift in public opinion is not a transfer of power; the ban is the true face of structural violence.

Susan Sarandon's experience reveals a brutal truth: a shift in public perception does not equate to a shift in power structures. Even if polls show rising sympathy for Palestinians, in the highly centralized industry of Hollywood, the decision of who is cast or shunned is not driven by 'public opinion,' but by a few major studios and agencies that control the cognitive entry points.

This is a textbook case of structural violence. In this system, expression is weaponized as a screening mechanism. When you challenge the core narrative of power—in this case, the complicity between US politics and Zionism—you cease to be an 'actor' and become a 'risk factor.' When agencies tell people not to hire her, they aren't discussing art; they are executing a political purge. The essence of this ban is the seizure of the right to interpret: by stripping an individual of their space for expression, the system warns all potential co-conspirators that anyone who deviates from the prescribed narrative will be excised from the system.

The 'power structure' Sarandon mentions is the manifestation of meta-violence. Hollywood poses as a sanctuary of diversity and progress, but its underlying logic remains a rigid masculine-centric narrative: power is defined at the top, and those at the bottom trade their subjectivity for survival by playing 'correct' roles. The so-called 'progress' instantly reverts to primitive suppression the moment it touches core interests, such as geopolitical complicity.

It is a grand irony that she found a place in a film titled *The Echo Chamber*. In this industry, most people still reside within a massive echo chamber constructed by power, repeating permitted lines, only to realize that when they attempt to step outside, the door has already been locked.
