Stop Using 'Mindset' to Anesthetize Structural Violence

Defining anger from power imbalance as 'stress' is the most sophisticated form of cultural violence.

文中提到,大多数人的挫败感来自于‘处于他人的掌控之下’ (at the mercy of somebody else)。

The Danes have a concept called 'pyt'—a linguistic shrug to simply move on from things out of one's control. While marketed as a minimalist strategy for happiness, it is a textbook example of cultural violence: it attempts to shift the frustration born from power imbalance from a question of 'oppression' to one of 'emotional management.'

According to the Violence Triangle, when the gap between a person's Actual and Potential state is enforced by systems, it is structural violence. Narratives like pyt serve as the cultural layer that legitimizes this structure. It tells the victim that their anger is not a rational response to exploitation, but a failure of 'healthy thinking.'

As the author notes, most frustrations occur when we are 'at the mercy of somebody else.' This is the crux. In asymmetrical power dynamics, the dominant party benefits when the subordinate party 'pyts' their way out of indignation. This toxic positivity is a form of complicity, where the oppressed are conditioned to believe that 'acceptance' is synonymous with 'mental health.'

The true optimal expression is not learning how to 'let go,' but identifying the structural entry point of the violence. If a society encourages everyone to press a 'pyt button' in the face of injustice, it has successfully neutralized the existential war before it even begins, burying the drive for change under the guise of 'mindset training.'
