For years, mental health organizations have constructed a singular narrative at the cognitive entry point: that those with mental illnesses are purely victims and violence is a negligible deviation. While framed as humanitarian, this 'softening the truth' is an attempt to monopolize the interpretation of reality, erasing the risk of direct violence from public discourse.
This logic is perilous. When charities choose selective blindness to avoid 'stigma,' they enter a state of complicity at the structural level. They maintain a 'compassionate' organizational image while leaving actual potential victims exposed to unwarned danger. In this game, these organizations pursued a 'fake optimal expression': playing the role of the moral protector to gain social capital, while simply deleting public safety from the equation.
We must ask: who is this fear of 'stigma' actually protecting? A system that refuses to acknowledge risk for fear of labels is itself a collaborator in violence. Just Expressions require acknowledging the rights of the mentally ill while honestly addressing the risk of violence to drive actual resource allocation, rather than sweeping the truth under the rug with PR rhetoric.
It is a small win that Mind admits its failure, but true victory lies not in a roundtable confession, but in translating this into structural change—such as increasing hospital beds and assertive outreach. Otherwise, this admission is just another weaponized narrative: admitting a minor lapse to mask a systemic failure.
