Godzilla-level Disaster: The Final Settlement of Human Complicity
The UN uses the term "Godzilla-level" to describe this El Niño. While this anthropomorphic narrative of terror grabs attention, it masks a stark reality: this is not an "uncontrollable natural disaster," but a calculated structural violence driven by fossil fuels.
Applying Galtung's Violence Triangle, when global temperatures are pushed to a millennium high, the gap between the Potential (ecological stability) and the Actual (the degraded present) is the violence manufactured through the complicity of capital markets, energy giants, and political power. By monopolizing cognitive entry points, they package the climate crisis as "unpredictable extreme weather" to evade their role as perpetrators. This is classic cultural violence: it makes direct deaths—such as the 35,000 heatwave casualties in Europe—appear as random misfortunes rather than systemic homicide.
Most ironically, this El Niño is forming a vicious positive feedback loop: global heating intensifies El Niño, which in turn turbocharges the climate crisis. It is a designed scam where the marginalized—those facing weakened monsoons in India, floods in South America, and wildfires in Indonesia—are the only ones paying the bill. They possess no power to define or interpret; they only have bodies waiting to be harvested in the "danger zone."
Facing this meta-violence, the UN Secretary-General's call to "win the race" sounds like an insincere PR stunt. As long as the rule-makers remain the complicitors profiting from pollution, any so-called "climate action" is merely feeding the Godzilla to keep it quiet until the next eruption.
