Uber 的“简化”叙事与管理层的生存博弈Uber's 'Simplicity' Narrative and the Management Survival Game

所谓的“简化组织”通常是权力重新洗牌的遮羞布。
所谓的 'organizational simplification' is usually a veil for the reshuffling of power.

Dara Khosrowshahi is using the typical corporate scam of being 'simpler and faster' to package a mass layoff. In the narrative of capital markets, cutting 3,300 management roles is described as eliminating 'complexity,' but in essence, it is a redistribution of resources in an existential war. With a valuation exceeding $150 billion, the C-suite is no longer concerned with organizational efficiency, but with strengthening top-down control by purging the middle and freeing up budget for the upcoming robotaxi automation.

The most alarming part is the mandate to return to the office. Requiring 99% of staff to be physically present is not about 'collaboration'; it is a form of structural violence. For many employees, especially women who shoulder more caregiving responsibilities, remote work was a small but critical optimal expression won through bargaining between their professional and private spheres. Forcing a return to the office is effectively using physical space to re-establish a visible, monitorable, and masculine-centric power field, subconsciously pushing those who cannot commit 100% of their physical presence out of the inner circle of power.

Uber is 'robotizing' its own organizational structure—not just the taxis on the road, but the internal management of people, turning it into a cold, peak-efficiency algorithm devoid of empathy. Who stays and who is 'optimized' in this cull depends on who is willing to enter into complicity and who can best play the role of the 'efficient and obedient' tool. A 'stronger Uber' simply means a power machine where authority is more concentrated and individual subjectivity is further withered.
