This thirty-year vacuum was not a result of 'lack of evidence,' but of systemic complicity.
Look at the logic: police ignored leads in 1996; key witnesses were gunned down while the system remained indifferent. This wasn't a mistake; it was complicity. When the victim is Black, a gang member, and a rapper like Tupac who challenged the system, the judicial machine performed a subconscious pricing: his life wasn't worth the operational cost of a thorough investigation. Justice only arrived because the killer wrote a memoir for fame, literally feeding the evidence to prosecutors. This wasn't justice 'pursued'; it was an expression surrendered by the perpetrator for personal gain.
Most cynical of all is the prosecutor's 'voluntary' decision to drop the gang enhancement. This performative mercy is a confirmation of meta violence—it signals that if you play the game long enough within this structure, the system will still grant you a courtesy even after a confession of murder. This is not a legal victory; it is a belated PR stunt designed to use a guilty verdict to mask thirty years of systemic failure in a broken, racist judicial machine.
