Everything’s Unmissable: Structural Murder Masked by Sacred Narratives

When death is packaged as a 'sacred loss,' systemic failure is rebranded as an abstract tragedy.

A massive wooden sign collapsed at a Christian festival, killing a pastor. The sign read “Everything’s Unmissable.” This irony is irrelevant in the face of religious narratives, because every subsequent expression was immediately weaponised: the church called him a “faithful servant,” organisers were “heartbroken,” and the archbishop “prayed.”

This is textbook cultural violence. By sanctifying the deceased and framing the event as “unforeseen circumstances,” the narrative swiftly shifts public attention from structural violence to emotional solace. The real question is: how was a lethal overhead sign installed in a wind-prone environment? Where was the safety audit? Who were the complicit parties cutting safety corners to reduce costs for a mega-festival?

Under the logic of meta-violence, as long as it doesn't involve active slaughter, all “civilised life” is a gaming field. When death occurs, religious narratives provide the most efficient cover—replacing accountability with “God’s will” or “deep grief.” When a man's death is defined as a “blessing” and “service,” he is stripped of his subjectivity as a victim and turned into a sacrificial token for community cohesion.

Actual good_news would be the intervention of safety regulators leading to the closure of systemic loopholes, not a touching tribute on a GoFundMe page. Prayers do not reinforce signs, but holding structural negligence accountable does.
