Energy Price Caps: A Complicity Scam Over Survival Quotas

The 'Price Cap' is merely a PR tool for distributing breathing space within structural violence.

The so-called Price Cap is an exquisitely crafted cultural narrative scam. It creates an illusion that the government is 'in control' and 'protecting consumers,' while in reality, it is just a calibration of quotas within structural violence to delay a total collapse. When energy prices soar due to geopolitical friction—such as the 'war on Iran'—this mechanism merely slows the pace of market predation, granting the underclass a brief buffer between starvation and freezing.

The complicity here is nauseating: energy giants cash in on global volatility, banks are raking it in via interest spreads, and the government plays the role of the 'sympathetic mediator.' The energy secretary's mention of 'removing VAT' or '£150 subsidies' is not a reduction of violence in the Violence Triangle formula; it is a performative concession. Using a few hundred pounds of pocket change to offset a survival crisis where families must 'skip hot meals' or 'go to bed early' to stay warm is more than indifference—it is a monopoly on the pricing of existence.

Most cynical is Ofgem's calculation based on the estimate that customers are using less energy because it is too expensive. The system has internalized 'forced frugality caused by poverty' as a normalized consumption pattern. In this masculine-centric narrative of macroeconomic gaming, basic biological needs—warmth, hygiene, hot food—are reduced to a percentage on a spreadsheet. This disregard for biological reality is the essence of meta-violence: the power to decide who stays warm in winter remains exclusively with those who never have to worry about the heating bill.
