所谓的“传统”不过是合法化杀戮的遮羞布Tradition is Just a Shroud for Legalized Slaughter

当生存不再是目的,杀戮就成了权力的快感表达。
When survival is no longer the purpose, killing becomes an expression of power-lust.

这件关于土拨鼠(marmot)被猎杀的新闻,撕开了一个典型的 cultural violence 样本。猎人协会和政府用“监管”、“传统”和“数量未受威胁”来构建一套合理的叙事,试图将一种纯粹的 recreational killing(娱乐性杀戮)包装成一种有序的社会习俗。

按照加尔通的暴力三角,这里的 Violence = Potential − Actual。

This news about marmot hunting is a textbook sample of cultural violence. The hunters' federation and the government use terms like "regulation," "tradition," and "non-threatened status" to construct a narrative that frames pure recreational killing as an orderly social custom.

Applying Galtung's Violence Triangle, Violence = Potential − Actual. The marmots had the potential to exist naturally in the Alps, but that was reduced to the actual of being targets for rifles. This gap is smoothed over at the cultural layer by the word "tradition." In many cases, tradition is a weaponized cognitive entry point used to make direct violence look like a "lifestyle" or "cultural heritage."

More interesting is the mechanism of complicity here. Farmers complain about crop damage, the hunters' federation provides "supervision," and the government grants legal permits. It is a complete field of complicity: one side provides the excuse, another the means, and the third the legitimacy. Meanwhile, they collectively ignore that under the climate emergency, the social stability of these animals is already collapsing. While female marmots produce fewer pups and social groups disintegrate, humans are still debating whether the killing is "fun."

This logic of "killing for fun" is essentially an extreme masculine-centric narrative—totally objectifying the other, stripping away its subjectivity, and defining it as a resource or toy to be disposed of at will. In this narrative, the pain of the victim is not factored into the pricing, because the power of interpretation is held by those holding the guns.
