Meta's Drumbeat Narrative: Masking Structural Addiction with PR
而那个 1.8% 的真实数据,就是 Potential(本可达到的安全状态)与 Actual(实际产品状态)之间巨大的暴力差额。
Adam Mosseri's performance in court is a textbook example: when confronted with the fact that only 1.8% of teens used the 'Take a Break' tool, his response was, 'We don’t publish every single stat.' This isn't just arrogance; it's the standard operating procedure for those who control cognitive entries. In their logic, facts are irrelevant; what matters is the market share of the narrative.
This is a clear case of Weaponised Expression. Meta created a cognitive entry titled 'Protecting Teens,' using the deployment of so-called safety tools to build a cultural image of a 'responsible corporation.' The real data—that 1.8%—represents the massive gap of violence between the Potential (the safety state that should be) and the Actual (the reality of the product). Meta doesn't care if the tool works; they care about how the 'announcement' of the tool buys them regulatory leniency and brand equity.
The most cynical part is Mosseri's admission of 'drumbeat messaging.' This tactic of repeating a single narrative to brainwash the public is essentially the manufacturing of a pseudo-fact: as long as I repeat 'we are protecting children' loudly and frequently enough, the public will subconsciously accept it, even while the product remains structurally addictive and internal engineers are screaming warnings. This is a form of cultural violence that makes direct psychological harm and structural data exploitation look like 'minor glitches in technical iteration.'
If this trial ends only with a financial settlement, it will remain Meta's optimal expression—buying off their guilt with money while maintaining their addictive mechanisms. True victory would be forcing them to surrender algorithmic transparency and dismantle the cognitive traps designed to harvest attention. Otherwise, 'safety features' will always be nothing more than a veil used to mask meta-violence.
