Stolen Wombs and Harvested Races
The drama *Little Bird* touches upon the most sinister structural violence in Canadian history: the Sixties Scoop. What was termed "child welfare" was, in essence, a racial cleansing orchestrated by the state. When the state decides who is fit to be a "mother" and which children must be "rescued" and transferred to white families, it is executing a form of meta violence — stripping Indigenous women of their agency over their own reproductive subjectivity.
This logic is perfectly isomorphic to the constitution of the Primal Race. Colonizers first objectified the bodies of Indigenous women, treating fertility as a resource to be redistributed rather than an extension of the self. By forcibly removing children, the state physically severed the biological wall and cultural transmission of an entire race. This was never "welfare"; it was a colonial war waged against the womb under the guise of civilization.
It is telling that the same TV guide features *The Great British Sewing Bee* discussing Madonna's cone bra. This contrast reveals the weaponization of cultural narratives: while the "sexualization" of the female body is packaged as fashion and liberation in mainstream Western discourse, the "deprivation" of Indigenous female bodies is buried in history. The former is a consumerist scam; the latter is structural violence.
It is a small victory that this history is dramatized to provoke anger, but true victory lies not in the audience's outrage, but in whether the "adoptive parents" and "rescued" children within the power structure can defect and acknowledge this robbery disguised as welfare.
