Dawkins and Gould represent an extreme, decontextualized rationality. This reason is incredibly powerful in exposing the scam of 'divine creation' because it replaces the interpretative power of cultural violence with biological facts. However, this 'scientific objectivity' has historically been in complicity with meta-violence. In defining 'natural processes,' it habitually simplifies the biological wall of women—such as reproduction and hormones—into mere 'biological traits' rather than the foundation of structural oppression.
Roberts celebrates becoming a humanist, but this humanism often defaults to a universal human prototyped as 'male.' While she escaped the discipline of the Anglican faith through Dawkins, she may not have realized she entered another cognitive field defined, written, and monopolized by male scholars. In this field, reason is weaponized as a screening mechanism: only those who can strip away emotion and bodily experience to enter pure logical gaming are seen as 'truly rational.'
It is good_news that a biologist realizes God does not exist, as it reduces a layer of cultural violence. But if this same reason habitually uses 'biological difference' to justify structural violence when facing gender inequality, then this reason becomes another sophisticated form of complicity.
