Solar Bonds: A Structural Game of Energy Pricing Power

Energy poverty is structural violence; the weaponisation of finance ensures the poor are harvested twice while saving energy.

On the surface, this news is about lowering loan costs for solar panels. In reality, it exposes a classic structural violence: low-income households are intercepted by high commercial interest rates (9%-10%) while trying to move from their current state toward a Potential of lower energy bills. It is a cynical scam—borrowing to save, only for those savings to be wiped out by bank interest for a decade. Here, energy efficiency is not a right, but a tool for financial institutions to harvest the bottom tier.

The "solar bonds" proposed by Common Wealth attempt to shift this financial logic from commercial to universal. This is an effort to reduce the violence gap at the structural layer. By halving interest rates and tying loans to the property, energy independence ceases to be a luxury for the rich and becomes a universal entitlement. This is not merely an environmental issue, but a power struggle over who controls energy pricing and who profits from the transition.

However, we must remain skeptical of government PR phrases like "zero and low-interest loans." Without a transparent retail investment model like solar bonds, such promises often devolve into another form of complicity: the state subsidises installers' profits while low-income families still bear hidden financial risks. True good_news is not found in government "promotion," but in the establishment of a Just Expression that prevents the poor from being preyed upon by financial interest.
