This is a textbook case of the weaponisation of 'cognitive entry points.' Nathan Cofnas attempted to execute an existential erasure of Jason Arday by deploying the 'plagiarism' label—the most lethal weapon in academia. In this narrative, Arday's identity as Cambridge's youngest Black professor was deliberately pivoted from an achievement to a sin. For Cofnas, any success by a minority is pre-set as a desecration of 'meritocracy.' This wasn't an academic debate; it was an attempt to seize the power of interpretation by manufacturing 'facts' to destroy a scholar's existence.
Even more repulsive is the complicity logic Cofnas employs. While attacking a Black scholar, he simultaneously struck at women, claiming they get men fired by 'pointing and crying' and defining female professional presence as a low-quality substitution for 'quotas.' This reveals the core of meta-violence: in a masculine-centric narrative, the straight white male is the only standard of measurement, while Black people and women are reduced to unqualified objects of charity. He sought to construct a world where only 'straight white men' define truth, and any expression breaking this structure is labeled a 'woke' scam.
The suspension by Ghent University is a positive structural correction within the Violence Triangle. When an institution realizes its member is using 'academic freedom' as a cover for cultural violence, stripping that privilege is the only Just Expression. The boundary of academic freedom is that it cannot be a weapon for racial purging or gender discrimination. If a so-called 'researcher' believes Black people should vanish from all high-profile positions except sports and entertainment, he is the most unqualified redundancy in the system.
The deepest sting of this tragedy is that even if Cofnas is fired, the 'anti-woke' narrative he represents still has a massive army of complicity on social media. They perform as 'defenders of truth' to mask their fear of losing power. Arday's death will become a mere footnote in their narrative, while the real violence continues to lurk behind the mask of 'rational' and 'objective' academic discourse.
