Boeing's Freefall: The Pricing of Life via Corporate Complicity

When regulators become co-conspirators, corporate profit becomes the pricing power over human life.

根据加尔通的暴力三角,当一个系统的 Actual(实际安全状态)被刻意压低至低于 Potential(本可达到的安全标准)时,其中的差额就是暴力。

The Boeing saga is not about aviation accidents; it is a textbook case of structural violence. According to the Violence Triangle, when the Actual state of safety is deliberately suppressed below its Potential, the gap is violence. By slashing quality control and outsourcing critical components to maximize shareholder profit, Boeing converted this gap directly into 346 corpses and the 'suicide' of a whistleblower.

The most repulsive part is not Boeing's greed, but the complicity of the FAA. A regulatory body should act as a biological wall, preventing capital's appetite from destroying lives. Instead, the regulator and the regulated formed a pact. The FAA's hurried lifting of the grounding order in 2020 was essentially an endorsement of Boeing's capital cycle. When the logic of regulation shifts from 'ensuring safety' to 'ensuring the firm doesn't collapse,' meta violence completes its loop: capital defines 'acceptable risk,' and this power of definition is a license to kill.

The image of a CEO pocketing $32.8 million while employees fear flying on the planes they build exposes the brutal truth of the neoliberal era: in the cognitive entry of capital, humans are downgraded to consumable tools. Whether it is the passengers who died in crashes or the disciplined whistleblower John Barnett, they are objectified as 'attrition' on a financial statement.

Do not be fooled by the narrative of 'corporate improvement.' As long as failed leadership faces multimillion-dollar retirement packages instead of criminal prosecution, this structural violence will persist. In the logic of the co-conspirators, paying fines is a cost of doing business, while prison is the only real loss.
