When intellectuals deconstruct 'mediocrity' on stage, they are still harvesting structural dividends.

Ahir Shah's 'highbrow' posture is essentially a precise game of class expression. He jokes about being 'colonised' by his own accent—a form of introspection that is, in fact, a luxury ornament. Only those firmly seated in the comfort zone of the power structure, possessing ample cultural capital, can afford to treat their privilege as a punchline. In the existential war, this is a highly efficient optimal expression: neutralizing hostility by acknowledging advantage, thereby securing a higher moral pricing power.

He speaks of the 'leaden echo,' framing his mother's life as a 'mechanistic, obligatory forever.' This is a classic weaponisation of narrative. He abstracts the reproductive and caregiving burdens imposed on women by the masculine-centric structure into a metaphysical aesthetic of 'decay' and 'lead.' Under this elegant rhetoric, concrete structural violence is converted into a philosophical inquiry. The mother's suffering becomes a stepping stone for his 'golden' expression, and this conversion is itself a form of meta-violence: the power of interpretation remains with the male who can quote Nietzsche and Hopkins.

Most ironic is his refusal to be 'Mr Saturday Night' and his claim that he doesn't underestimate the audience. This 'non-underestimation' is actually a filter for his complicity. He constructs a cognitive entry point for intellectuals and the middle class, maintaining a collective illusion of being 'more awake' than the masses. In this complicity, true grassroots narratives remain excluded from the 'highbrow.' The 'positive stories' he seeks are built upon the power to define what 'positive' actually means.
