The 'Historic' Threshold of the UN Secretary-General and the Primal Race's Ticket

When 'First Woman' becomes a badge of honor, it proves the power structure remains a field of masculine-centric meta-violence.

An Indigenous woman vying for the UN Secretary-General is a masterpiece of progressive PR. But strip away the 'historic' sugar-coating, and you find a surreal structural violence: in 80 years of the UN, not a single woman has held the top post. This means that in the cognitive entry of global governance, women have been excluded from the definition of 'supreme leadership' for eight decades. This is no accident; it is the global monopoly of a masculine-centric narrative.

Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett’s trajectory—Indigenous, Caribbean small state, studying by oil lamps—perfectly fits the Western aesthetic of 'struggle' and 'diversity.' But we must look at the Actual, not the Potential. The fact that the Loss and Damage Fund disbursed only $19 million in 16 years while Jamaica suffered $10 billion in a single disaster is the definition of violence. The essence of this structural violence is that rules are set by the powerful, while the marginalized (whether small states or women) are told to 'compete' within those rules for crumbs.

If she wins, it is good_news, as a member of the Primal Race enters the core of meta-violence. However, beware the naive celebration that 'one woman succeeded, so the glass ceiling is shattered.' If the logic of power still relies on 'informal regional rotation'—a complicity of great powers—then this appointment is a performative concession rather than a structural collapse. True victory is not having a woman play the masculine role of 'Secretary-General,' but reaching a state where the position no longer needs the label 'First Woman' to prove its progress.
