Zuckerberg's 'Protection' is Just Another Form of Predation
Meta's strategy is textbook: perform 'concern for safety' in public while executing 'profit above all' in private. This isn't a management failure; it's a calculated weaponisation of expression. By crafting the persona of a 'responsible tech leader,' Zuckerberg seized the interpretative power over 'child safety,' disguising Meta as a neutral platform providing tools rather than an algorithmic factory manufacturing addiction and feeding predators.
The testimony of whistleblower Arturo Béjar strips away this facade. When an engineer briefs the CEO 100 times and the CEO continues to lie publicly, a deep internal complicity is revealed. In this complicity, executives agreed on a silent pact: as long as they deny systemic collapse and roll out performative 'safety tools,' they can continue harvesting youth attention while evading legal liability.
The most repulsive part is the lawyer's defense: admitting users 'struggle' but claiming they provided 'tools' to address it. This is the essence of meta violence—where the rule-maker defines the 'problem' and then dictates the 'solution.' In this narrative, the victims are told to use tools provided by the aggressor to save themselves, while the aggressor achieves moral absolution through the act of 'helping.'
This trial is only good_news if it results in $200bn in damages or forced design changes. Otherwise, if it ends in a costly settlement, the trial itself becomes Meta's greatest PR victory: proving that as long as the fine is less than annual revenue, it is profitable to leave children exposed to predators and violence.
