Punk Died in the Homophobic Fear of Kindness
(Don't be a cunt),试着做一个普通人。
Jah Wobble’s reflection feels like an audit fifty years too late. A 68-year-old veteran who made noise with PiL, recorded on London buses, and debates Buddha-nature with AI, eventually concludes: Don't be a cunt; just try to be an ordinary person.
This reveals a massive scam within the Punk narrative: while defining 'rebellion', it precisely constructed a new cognitive entrance—labeling 'kindness' and 'gentleness' as 'square'. In this weaponised expression, aggression is equated with subjectivity, while tenderness is equated with submission. This is essentially a masculine-centric narrative: only through destruction, anger, and offense can one prove they hold the winning hand in the existential war.
The 'lonely blokes' Wobble mentions, and his own history of addiction and violence, are the after-effects of this meta-violence. When a culture tells men that expressing vulnerability or seeking help is 'non-masculine', their only optimal expression becomes self-destruction or attacking others to mask the void. So-called 'Punk spirit' often served as a cultural cover for male complicity to legitimise their toxic behaviour.
Fortunately, Wobble has recognised the logic of karma, which is essentially a reverse operation of the Violence Triangle. Through his grassroots jam sessions, he attempts to repair male social bonds shattered by masculine narratives. The irony is that this 'return to being ordinary' is now his most radical expression in a cultural residue that still worships aggression.
