The 'Precautionary Recall' is a PR Whitewash of Structural Violence
This is a textbook game of interpretation. Facing direct violence—pets losing their sight—Years company immediately deployed a polished PR narrative: framing a severe quality failure as a 'precautionary measure' and insisting there is no 'conclusive evidence.'
But the facts tell a different story. The company wrote a blogpost in February questioning the safety of buckwheat. They knew the risk, yet forced this ingredient upon 40,000 subscription users without adequate validation. This is essentially using pets as low-cost biological samples for an experiment. Only when victims organized on Facebook, turning structural violence into visible data, did the company realize they had lost control of the cognitive entry point. They deleted the post and issued a recall, using the word 'voluntary' to hedge against legal liability.
The most disgusting complicity lies in their attempt to dilute the truth by dismissing the Facebook group as 'unverified.' In the logic of capital, only 'verification' defined by the corporation counts as fact; actual suffering is labeled as 'unverified potential issues.' This is exactly how meta-violence operates: by monopolizing the right to interpret, erasing the subjectivity of the victims, and packaging a potential mass-blinding event as 'responsible brand maintenance.'
