This exhibition attempts to discuss how tech changes play, but the real issue is the passive surrender of the cognitive entry point. From the 1995 BBC microcomputers to today's AI, the so-called "Digital Mirror" is essentially a premature handover of the right to expression. When a child's imagination begins to generate within the preset logic of a screen, their subjectivity is subconsciously defined by the boundaries of the algorithm.
On the cultural layer, this shift is presented as a gentle "digital evolution," but on the structural layer, it is a profound form of discipline. As children seek themselves in digital mirrors, they are actually learning how to become "users" who fit the system's logic. This internalization from an early age creates a natural sense of compliance toward digital tyranny in adulthood—because their cognitive baseline was set as "screen equals reality" during childhood.
It is noteworthy that the artist is the first woman photographer elected to the Royal Scottish Academy. Achieving recognition within such a masculine-centric institution is a victory in the game of power. However, this victory should not mask the crisis revealed in the work: if a child's make-believe occurs entirely within interfaces manipulated by capital and code, their ability to find a true optimal expression in the existential war of adulthood will be severely diminished.
