Marine Heatwaves: The Bill for a Carbon Complicity

Climate breakdown is not a natural disaster, but the result of complicity driven by meta-violence.

Marine heatwaves are framed as a 'phenomenon,' but through the lens of the Violence Triangle, this is structural violence materialized. Carbon pollution pushing waters 6°C above normal is a gap of violence: the difference between the potential survival state of marine life and the actual scorched reality, forcibly created by the fossil fuel industry and its power structures.

The most cynical part of this complicity is Europe's posture: acknowledging in research that climate breakdown caused two-thirds of the excess heat, while simultaneously expanding fossil fuel infrastructure. This is a weaponized narrative—performing the role of a 'responsible civilization' through scientific discourse, while maintaining the monopoly over the explanation of economic growth. This 'acknowledge with one hand, expand with the other' logic is exactly how meta-violence operates: those who define the rules always find a way to rationalize their plunder.

The mass mortality of marine species and the collapse of coastal livelihoods are packaged as 'ecological challenges,' but they are the costs of this global complicity. As the fastest-warming continent and a disproportionate polluter, Europe's attempt to offset its emissions with PR-version environmental policies creates a scam: the illusion that the climate crisis is a 'management' problem rather than one requiring the dismantling of structural power.
