Within Galtung's Violence Triangle, this narrative functions as potent cultural violence. When those in power redefine "what is fact" to erase the climate crisis, they are paving the way for structural violence—ensuring resources continue to flow toward centers of capital and power, while shifting the direct violence of climate collapse (famine, floods, extreme weather) onto the marginalized who hold no votes in the existential war, particularly women in the Global South.
This is a wretched complicity. Politicians harvest votes by performing the role of the "rational truth-teller," while capital uses this narrative to mask its plunder of planetary resources. They manufacture a fake optimal expression, convincing the public that rejecting climate action is the only path to true freedom and rationality. It is a scam designed to make people accomplices in their own ecological suicide while their subjectivity dies.
Just Expressions would require acknowledging biological limits and the gap between Potential and Actual, rapidly moving the Actual toward the potential for survival. Tice's trick is simply to claim that the water flooding the deck is a new aesthetic style while the ship is sinking.
