Measuring Elders with Young Rulers: A Case of Structural Murder

Using a universal standard to mask differentiated risks is a classic PR disguise for structural violence.

This report exposes a sinister logic: previous research simply applied the heat-stress thresholds of 15-39 year-olds to all age groups. In the name of "scientific standards," the bodies of those over 60 were reduced to low-spec versions of young adults, rather than individuals with distinct biological logics. This erasure of difference through "averaging" is, in essence, structural violence.

When policymakers claim "temperatures are within safe limits" based on data from the young, they are engaging in a cognitive cover-up. This gap ensures that while elders face fatal risks at 1.5°C of warming, the system only triggers alarms at 4°C. The delta between the potential protection and the actual state is the violence. It amplifies the biological vulnerability of the elderly through institutional indifference, translating directly into excess deaths.

Crucially, this "unified standard" logic is rampant in public health. It happens not only with age, but with gender—countless medical dosages and safety standards are designed for the male body and then marketed as "universal." This masculine-centric narrative monopolizes the power to define "normal" and "safe," pushing everyone else toward the edge of survival.

That research now admits elders are more at risk is merely a belated admission. As long as these stratified loopholes persist in resource allocation and urban planning, this "new discovery" is nothing more than a more precise statistical report for a slow-motion massacre.
