Tearing Down the Shelter of Civilization with a Medical Mask

When truth is erased by abstract language, only concrete biological destruction can breach the cognitive entry.

The brilliance of this documentary lies in its precise capture of a cognitive entry: the medical drama. In Western culture, the medical drama is a supreme symbol of 'civilization,' representing rationality, redemption, and humanity. Director Poh Si Teng realized that talking about genocide directly in the current US discourse would be quickly flagged as 'propaganda' and filtered out. However, by using doctors—identities with high professional standing—as the medium of expression, she creates a breach in the audience's psychological defenses.

This is essentially a war for the 'real.' Politicians and military spokespeople employ a highly abstract language to mask violence—they speak of 'strategic objectives' and 'precision strikes.' This language is itself a form of cultural violence; its function is to make direct violence not look like violence. The children shredded by US-made bombs and the rats gnawing on infants' faces in dark tents forcibly drag this abstract narrative back to the concrete agony of the biological wall. In the face of such extreme biological destruction, any shelter of civilization collapses.

The notion of 'clean violence' mentioned in the film is a textbook example of meta violence. American audiences are conditioned to define Russian bombs as 'atrocities' while defining their own as 'justice.' This monopoly over interpretation allows people to become complicit in their subconscious. When these doctors bring the unvarnished truth back to the halls of Congress, they are forcing the complicitors to face one fact: the 'civilized' system they participate in is fueled by the physical destruction of another race.

Many feel guilt after watching the film, but guilt is not enough. Guilt is an emotion; what we need is a cognitive grasp of structural violence. If this film only makes people feel sad, it remains another form of consumption. It only becomes a weapon when people realize exactly whose funding, whose policy, and whose silence supports this 'laboratory for death.' Only then does the existential war truly begin.
