Manufactured Consent and the Kidnapping by State Machinery

Any coercion masked as an 'agreement' is structural violence erasing subjectivity.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) excels in the art of packaging 'kidnapping' as 'procedure.' A British student with a valid visa was detained for 23 hours and subjected to high-pressure interrogation, only to be induced into signing a 'voluntary withdrawal' of his application. This is a classic case of weaponized expression: creating an extreme stress environment to force a victim into signing a legal text, thereby laundering a forced deportation into a 'personal choice' in the official record.

The violence chain here is transparent. The direct layer is the 23-hour detention and threats; the structural layer is the near-absolute discretionary power of the CBP to define any 'inconsistency' as a ground for inadmissibility; and the cultural layer is the deep-seated Muslim profiling. Under this narrative, a Muslim identity is preset as a 'potential threat.' The screening is no longer about verifying facts, but about hunting for fragments to support the 'threat theory.' Once the subject fails to navigate the logical traps, the structural violence closes the loop.

It is particularly cynical that the individual is autistic and has a heart disorder. In this asymmetric game, the CBP officer precisely exploited his vulnerability, using nonstop interviewing to shatter his psychological defenses. This was not an entry inspection; it was an existential war aimed at stripping the subject of his capacity for expression and forcibly redefining his identity—from 'tourist' to 'intending immigrant' or 'threat.'

The 'consular assistance' from the UK Foreign Office and the 'strict protocols' cited by the CBP are merely lubricants in this complicity. They maintain a meta-violence called 'order': as long as there is no mass bloodshed, the systematic humiliation and mental torture of specific ethnic groups are defined as the necessary price of 'national security.' In this logic, individual subjectivity is completely objectified, becoming mere fuel for the state machinery to perform its power.
